MEL RODGERS
American Wiener Producer
If Issa Dee didn’t have any friends.
Melissa Rodgers, goes by Mel, graduated top in her class from Upstate New York Film School (UNYF). Originally from Rhode Island (or ‘The Road’ as she refers to it as), she grew up an only child. Her father worked a traditional 9-5 job as a bank executive at RHCU and her mother worked as a stay at home mom and very active in the Providence Junior League (president ‘00-04). At a young age, Mel found solace and camaraderie in sitcom characters. She loved how at the end of thirty minutes all problems were resolved and there was always a catchy theme song.
As a high school freshman, she became president of the AV club and spent the next four years transforming the extra curricular activity to an award winning and nationally recognized high school news program. Her achievements landed her a full ride to the regionally recognized film program at Upstate New York Film school.
Mel spent all her time in college running the UNYF studio while also producing five original programs, including ‘Behind the Tenure’ which won the Collegiate Television Academy ‘Best Original Programing’ (the equivalent to an Emmy for college students).
After graduation, Mel took a job as the Location Producer for the new show ‘Foods on Fire’ hosted by Tony Burns. During filming for the season finale, Mel didn’t realize that the fondue setting was preset by the location’s establishment and she made manual adjustments to the strength of propane being supplied. It should have been a deadly and career ending mistake, but thanks to her quick actions and first aid training, she was able to save Tony and her career. It’s important to note that it's rumored that this ‘mistake’ was actually planned and designed for Tony to recognize Mel.
After her life saving actions, Tony had a private meeting with Mel. The discussion of which was never made known, except that afterwards Mel was promoted to Executive Producer and has run all of Tony’s programming ever since.
It is also important to know that Mel is the official go between for the Studio and Tony. It’s a role she cherishes and values, and one of the few secrets she has from Tony.
